Dniprodzerzhinsk Commercial Energy Efficiency

Sector

District heating

Proponent/project Owner

Municipality of Dniprodzerzhynsk

Background

District heating systems and industries of the City of Dniprodzerzhynsk burn large quanities of fossil fuel to provide heat and electricity for residential and industrial needs. To reduce fossil fuel consumption, the municipal council plans to increase electricity and heat production by utilizing associated gases at the metallurgical plants, introduce heat and power co-generation, and reduce energy losses from transportation and consumption.

Project Goal and Ghgs Targeted

The main goal of the project is to modernize the municipal boilers, install meters, and introduce demand side management at the municipal level. The project also includes modernization of district heating pipelines aimed at reducing heat losses and consumption of fossil fuel (coal, gas, mazut). The reductions in energy and fuel consumption will result in savings for the municipal government. Although the preliminary data for the total municipal GHG emission reductions are not available, reductions resulting from project implementation can be based on estimates of the decrease in fuel consumption.

Estimated Cost

The preliminary estimation suggests Us$ 200,000 are needed to implement the pilot phase: а pre- feasibility and feasibility studies.

Status and Financing

The municipal council is seeking partners to implement the pilot phase funded by а grant or under technical assistance programs. The developed materials will be presented to potential investors.
